Winter bugs called snow fleas are born in icy waters and feed on algae that grows on snow. Spring-tails are also called snow fleas and they leap around on snow banks. They eat the sap which oozes from trees. Spring-tails look very similar to fossils of 300 million years ago!
Timothy woke up!
Timothy woke up! Timothy the tortise may see his first Christmas in
150 years, thanks to global warming. Timothy has lived on the
estate of the Duke of Devonshire since 1892 and usually hibernates
during the winter and rises early in the spring. This year, because
of warmer temperatures, he has been waking up frequently and seems
"unsure of what he is doing." Timothy was born around the same time
as Queen Victoria! DECEMBER 21, 2000
