The hairs on a tarantula's body sense vibrations in the air. This helps the spider find its way around and hunt in the dark. The hairs on its body break off easily and irritate the skin of many animals. Tarantulas use their back legs to flick these hairs at enemies.
Whale rescuers eye site
Whale rescuers eye site The Head Harbour lighthouse on Campobello Island,
off the south coast of New Brunswick, is one of Canada’s most
photographed lighthouses. It has helped to guide ships in the Bay
of Fundy since 1831 and, in the last few years, has housed
volunteers who look for distressed whales. The endangered North
Atlantic right whales are at risk from becoming tangled in fishing
gear and dying. Plans to turn the lighthouse into a whale rescue
centre are now being discussed. 6 JULY 2000
