Most owls live in trees but the burrowing owl lives in holes and tunnels in the ground that it digs with its feet.
Against the grain
Against the grain Scientists believe that the number of grain
beetles and mites present in grain and cereal-based food products
is increasing. This is due to the insects developing a resistance
to the pesticides used to control them. Scientists now recommend
that farmers and grain stores use pesticides less frequently and
instead increase the use of organic methods to control the
pests. 28 NOVEMBER 1998, P. 20
