The sticky buds of black cottonwood are sweet-smelling in springtime. This sticky substance can be used as an ointment on cuts or as glue.
B.C. gets C grade for preserving wild areas
B.C. gets C grade for preserving wild areas Although B.C. has created 60 new protected parks
in the past year, it received a grade of C from the World Wildlife
Fund (WWF), on its environmental "report card" this year. The WWF
explained that B.C.'s protection policy does not include a fair
representation of the landscape of the province. It includes too
many areas of rock and ice, and not enough forested valley bottom
landscapes. The report cards are issued each year to Canadian
provinces and they assess that province's success at establishing
protected areas that represent biological and landscape
diversity. 28 APRIL 1999
