Inside information
A new method of testing the toxicity of pesticides and fungicides is being investigated by an agrochemical manufacturer. The method uses small chips called biosensors to detect toxicity. Biosensors are usually either small cultures of an organism's cells, or a small chip coated with fragments of genes from an organism. The effect of chemicals on those genes or cells is measured to determine whether the chemicals are toxic to the organism.
