Scientists have discovered an easy and inexpensive method of removing organic poisons from water. The method involves adding small amounts of oxygen and carbon monoxide to the contaminated water, then adding a metal catalyst and heating the water for several hours. The process breaks down organic contaminants and produces just water, carbon dioxide, and trace amounts of relatively harmless ions.
