Earthweek: coffee plague
Earthweek: coffee plague An incurable tree root disease, ‘coffee wilt
disease’ or CWD, has attacked and killed more than 9 million
Arabica coffee trees in Uganda. This fungal disease destroys the
roots of trees and causes them to die. The concern is that if CWD
spreads, the Ugandan coffee industry, upon which more than 1.5
million homes depend, could be crippled. Coffee is the leading
foreign exchange earner for Uganda. 10 JUNE 2000
