Ludwig von Beethoven, the famous composer, may have died from lead poisoning. Beethoven, who died at the age of 57 in 1827, suffered from severe abdominal pains, depression and irritability, which are all symptoms of lead poisoning. A four year study of Beethoven’s hair found high concentrations of lead –more than 100 times the amount found in healthy human hair. However, the source of the lead contamination remains a mystery.
