Although termites are not related to ants, they have a similar way of life. Sometimes they are even called white ants. Their huge nests are made from sand mixed with their own droppings!

Researchers in Germany say that a bee's sense of smell is innate (an instinct) rather than learned. These scientists presented 30 different scents to honeybees and monitored their brain activity in order to see which part of the bee's brain became active when they smelled each scent. They found that the different brain patterns activated for each scent were identical within the individuals of a species. This means that smells are not learned individually, but are shared by the entire species.
