Did you know that the more spots a male peacock has on his tail, the more likely he is to father babies, survive harsh winters and escape predators? Scientists think that only the healthiest males have lots of spots and that is why they are more successful than other males.
Mother of all killer bees
Mother of all killer bees The Cape honey bee which comes from southern South
Africa has started taking over the hives of other bees in northern
areas. The Cape bee was accidentally introduced to northern South
Africa and is moving in on the territories of an aggressive species
known as the African killer bee. When a hive is invaded, Cape bees
introduce their own queen and start laying eggs. Their eggs are
unusual in that each one can hatch a fully functional queen. The
host Killer bees change their behaviour and start feeding the
larvae of the invader Cape bees more food than they feed their own
larvae. Eventually, a Cape queen bee takes over and turns the
entire hive into a Cape bee colony. 18 MAY 2000
