Dolphins vain and smart
A new study has found that dolphins can recognize themselves in a mirror. Dolphins are the first non-primate shown to have self awareness. Two bottlenose dolphins at the New York Aquarium used mirrors on the sides of their pool to examine patterns drawn on their backs by animal psychologists. Researchers reported that the dolphins often turned and twisted their bodies to get a good look at the markings.
