Canada geese fly in a 'V' formation to reduce their energy costs. Each bird is able to take advantage of the reduced wind resistance behind the lead birds. To avoid turbulence they fly at high altitudes.
Bugs to the rescue
Bugs to the rescue A researcher in Germany has found a way to make a
bacteria produce tubes of cellulose which can be used as artificial
blood vessels. The cellulose is the same material which plants use
to build their cell walls. The artificial blood vessels could be
used in humans to replace those damaged by accident or
disease. 27 FEBRUARY 1999, P. 10
