Bionic hand gives hope for disabled children to perform normal
tasks A new electronically powered artificial hand for
disabled children has been unveiled in England. The thumb and
forefinger open and close when pressure is applied to an electrode
attached to tiny motors and gearboxes inside the hand. Children can
slip their arm into the bionic hand, which is encased in a silicon
glove. The bionic hand is designed for children who have a
congenital abnormality or a partial hand amputation at or below the
wrist. NOVEMBER 23, 2000
