Gene work turns leaves into petals

Gene work turns leaves into petals
Genetic scientists have pinpointed the five genes that can be manipulated in order to turn leaves into petals. The genes can be manipulated by traditional breeding techniques or by genetic engineering and when switched on, cause flowers to grow where only leaves used to. This will benefit nurseries and flower breeders in many ways, allowing them to create bigger flowers, earlier blooming plants, double flowers and more flowers per plant.
