White's tree frog has pads under each toe and these pads produce a sticky substance called mucus. The sticky mucus helps the frog grip wet leaves and other slimy surfaces. These tree frogs can even climb slippery tree trunks.
Gene work turns leaves into petals
Gene work turns leaves into petals Genetic scientists have pinpointed the five genes
that can be manipulated in order to turn leaves into petals. The
genes can be manipulated by traditional breeding techniques or by
genetic engineering and when switched on, cause flowers to grow
where only leaves used to. This will benefit nurseries and flower
breeders in many ways, allowing them to create bigger flowers,
earlier blooming plants, double flowers and more flowers per
plant. FEBRUARY 6, 2001
