Untreated sewage gushes out of Canadian cities
According to a study released by the Sierra Legal Defence Fund, a number of major Canadian cities discharge untreated or minimally treated sewage into the environment. The release of sewage into fish-bearing waters is illegal under the federal Fisheries Act. The amount of this untreated sewage released by major Canadian cities is more than one trillion litres per year. The report states that, at present, only Calgary uses truly effective sewage treatment.
