For 84 days, from late May to early August, the sun doesn't set on the tundra near Barrow, Alaska.
Coral crumbles
Coral crumbles Dead coral and the disappearance of fish from the
Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean are a result of the warm waters
caused by El Nino. The islands have, in the past, been a sanctuary
for hundreds of rare animal and plant species. The Chagos Islands
are a British territory and there is now a call for Britain to
close some reefs to the trawlers which fish these waters. Banning
fishing will help fish stocks to rise again over time, and will aid
the recovery of the coral reefs. 24 APRIL 1999, P. 13
