Snow crab may go way of cod: report The snow crab industry in Newfoundland is in
trouble. A report by CBC radio stated that it had received a copy
of a Department of Fisheries and Oceans report which said that snow
crab stocks around the province could run out within 3 years if
reproduction did not improve. Fishermen meeting with scientists in
St John's were alarmed at the threat to the $230 million industry.
According to CBC radio, scientists would like to see the annual
