Maritime oil disaster
Maritime oil disaster The world's largest oil platform, off the coast of
Brazil, sank in heavy seas after a disabling series of explosions.
The rig descended nearly 1 mile to the ocean floor carrying 312,000
gallons of oil. Ships were in place to contain an oil spill,
however tides and winds carried most of the oil out to
sea. MARCH 24, 2001
