Microbes bigger threat to water than chemicals, U.S. study
shows A U.S. study has shown that microbial pollutants
found in water supplies pose great danger to people. In the U.S.,
around 900 people are said to die every year from diseases carried
through the water supply. Water becomes contaminated with microbial
infections such as bacteria, parasites and viruses, all of which
threaten human life, through pumping sewage into water masses,
filtering waste into ground water and certain farming
practices. 28 APRIL 1999
