FACTOID!!
The largest known Douglas-fir lives on Vancouver Island, is almost 1,000 years old and is 89 metres (291 feet) tall! The top of this tree is broken but it was believed to be 10 metres (33 feet) taller, which would have it 99 metres (320 feet) tall!

Researchers have released a deepwater probe into the ocean in order to gain a better understanding of "megaplumes", hurricane-like bursts of hot water that occur on the ocean floor. First discovered in 1986, it is yet to be determined how megaplumes get started, but there are plans to begin an observatory near Axial, an undersea volcano where megaplumes have occurred.
