Earthweek: solar storm A gigantic solar flare disrupted high-frequency
communications on Earth. The flare sent a stream of charged
particles into the Earth’s atmosphere and these caused the
disruptions. Scientists reported that the disturbances would last
for 2 days before declining. They also warned that the power surges
caused by the solar storm could affect satellites orbiting the
Earth. These types of geomagnetic disturbance can also often cause
