Koalas are marsupials, a mammal that carries its young in a pouch. They live in the Eucalyptus forests of Australia and they only eat the new leaves of a few different types of eucalypt trees. Koala's paws are hand-like, strong, and have very sharp claws to help them hold onto tree trunks and branches.
Polar alert
Polar alert Scientists are concerned that global warming is
threatening to destroy a natural safety mechanism that has been
preserving the Arctic ozone. The drop in temperature in the lower
stratosphere over the poles is putting the natural nitrogen oxides
that protect the Arctic ozone layer under pressure. This
temperature drop is greater than previously predicted and is
raising concern as most scientists accept that colder temperatures
worsen the depletion of ozone. 12 JUNE 1999, P. 6
