Fish-Species quest cut short
Fish-Species quest cut short The B.C. fisheries ministry has eliminated the
jobs of three research scientists whose task is to identify
sensitive fish species in B.C. waters and come up with ways to
protect them. One of the scientists, Gordon Haas, is a taxonomist
who specializes in identifying and describing new species of fish.
Many of the fish species which have been identified in B.C. occur
nowhere else in the world, and are vulnerable, threatened,
endangered or already extinct. Without these three scientists, the
Fisheries Ministry has no one to identify these species and find
ways to prevent more extinctions.
