Wildlife panel scientists to get vote, Stewart says
Wildlife panel scientists to get vote, Stewart says Federal Environment Minister Christine Stewart
will announce that she is restoring the voting rights of scientists
on the committee that identifies and lists species in danger of
extinction. The Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in
Canada has both governmental and non-governmental scientists on it.
Currently, only the scientists who are employed by the government
are allowed to vote on these issues. It is hoped that restoring
voting rights to the non-governmental members will ensure the
"continued scientific integrity of the committee", since the
non-governmental scientists would not be under political pressure
from their governmental department to vote a certain
way.
