What can Inner-City Parks Tell Us About the Health of Cities?

Environmental change in urban spaces
The plants and soil in urban (city) parks give clues to the changing health and environmental conditions in cities. Scientists from the University of Winnipeg, Manitoba, are creating an inventory of the types of vegetation and soil found along Omand's Creek, which runs through south Winnipeg, Manitoba. The researchers will also examine the influence of past climate change on the growth of native tree species. This information will serve as a starting point for the continued monitoring of park conditions, providing a benchmark for the city's environmental health. back to the list of projects
