The Territories of Boreal Owls in the Rocky Mountains
Habitat loss.
Researchers from the University of Wyoming, U.S.A., are examining patterns of landscape in large forests and their influence on the boreal owls who live there. They are also investigating how current timber harvesting practices in the subalpine (mountain) forests of the Rocky Mountains are changing the way that the owls use the land. Information from this study will be used in a comparative look at the boreal owls of the southern Rocky Mountains and the boreal owls of southeastern British Columbia. The results from this research will be used to aid the development of sustainable forest management plans.
