A fly's taste organs are its feet. If it lands on sugar, it will stamp on it to determine that it can be eaten before it begins its meal.
Bird brains
Bird brains The world's only alpine parrot, New Zealand's kea,
is probably the world's smartest and most annoying protected bird
species. The kea has been shown to have extraordinary problem
solving skills and also seems to enjoy teasing people and other
animals. The keas particularily enjoy removing rubber lining and
seals from vehicles and sliding down corrugated iron roofs to make
as much noise as possible. The kea was heavily hunted until 1970,
and is still threatened in some areas. The only way to keep the kea
away from populated areas is to hide all food and
playthings. APRIL 7-8, 2001
