The largest known Douglas-fir lives on Vancouver Island, is almost 1,000 years old and is 89 metres (291 feet) tall! The top of this tree is broken but it was believed to be 10 metres (33 feet) taller, which would have it 99 metres (320 feet) tall!
Equality makes for more violent fights
Equality makes for more violent fights A male fallow deer's social standing determines
the risks he is prepared to take during the rutting season. Animals
of the same social rank become involved in confrontations
containing more physical conflict, which carries a greater risk of
injury. When the combatants are mismatched, there is much more
posturing and less physical contact. Researchers suggest that males
of the same rank must engage in physical combat to determine who is
stronger, while in mismatched battles, the higher ranking male can
afford to threaten rather than physically fight. OCTOBER 30, 1999, P. 27
