On a hot summer day an elephant drinks 200 litres (50 gallons) of water.
Mother's darlings
Mother's darlings Female zebra finches deposit more testosterone in
eggs fathered by their favorite male. Chicks who receive more
testosterone usually hatch earlier, beg more for food and grow
faster than their nestmates. This finding makes it difficult for
researchers to tell whether the father's genes or the mother's
extra help allow the offspring to thrive, but shows the importance
of maternal influence on offspring survival and quality. OCTOBER 9, 1999, P. 18
