Extinction point

Extinction point
Researchers studying fish which have been genetically engineered to carry the human growth hormone gene say that these fish could cause local wild populations of the species to become extinct if they were introduced into them. The genetically modified fish would out-compete the normal fish for mates and would produce more offspring. However, the modified fish have a smaller rate of survival to reproductive age than natural fish, and so would eventually cause the populations to dwindle and become extinct.
