Hole stretches over city
Hole stretches over city For the first time, the hole in the ozone layer
has stretched over a populated area. Previously, the hole was over
Antarctica and the surrounding ocean, but now NASA reports that it
covers almost 30 million square kilometres - more than three times
the size of Canada! This extends the hole over the south Chilean
city of Punta Arenas, and exposes the residents to very high levels
of ultraviolet radiation. OCTOBER 6, 2000
