Researchers have found that the active ingredient in catnip will repel cockroaches. It is hoped that this ingredient can be used commercially, especially in food packaging, since the extract from catnip is not harmful to humans, while most other insect repellents are toxic. Other plants are being studied to see if they might also contain natural pest repellents which are safe for humans and other animals.
