Privatize B.C.'s forest lands, Miller says in call for
overhaul In a speech at B.C.'s major annual forestry
convention, deputy premier Dan Miller said that the province's
forestry system needs a major overhaul, but that the government
does not have a clear vision of what needs to be done. Admitting he
was only speaking for himself, Miller suggested selling Crown lands
to forestry companies and moving to a market-based timber-pricing
system. Many were cautious about the statements made by Miller.
Others in the forestry industry supported suggestions for
privatization. 10 APRIL 1999
