carried by beetles who burrow beneath the bark of elm trees, are
combining and are making it more difficult to combat the disease.
The original fungus spread from Europe to North America and Central
Asia in the 1920's and 30's. Now, the North American form and the
European form have met in Central Europe. Not knowing how this new
form of the Dutch elm fungus will develop makes breeding
