Freshwater fisheries may disappear A researcher at the University of Alberta predicts
that factors such as climate warming, pollution and overfishing
could destroy Canada's freshwater fisheries within 50 years unless
measures are taken. Speaking at a conference on freshwater issues,
David Schindler said that increasing temperatures will cause
wetlands to disappear, disrupt fish migrations and promote the
invasion of non- native species to Canada's waterways. 17 MAY 2000
