Ancient stone tools chip away date of early humans' arrival

Ancient stone tools chip away date of early humans' arrival
In Alberta, archaeologist Dr Jiri Chlachula has discovered stone tools believed to have been made at least 20,000 years ago, predating the last Ice Age. The tools were found near the Bow River in Calgary, in 1990. More recent finds have been made by Dr. Chlachula and his colleagues in several other locations. Dr Chlachula believes that there are probably many more artifacts buried under glacial debris throughout the region. It had previously been believed that humans did not come to this part of North America until about 12,000 years ago. These new findings could shed light on how and when ancient humans migrated south through North America. There is some disagreement over whether the tools found do actually predate the Ice Age. However, sites containing tools and other artifacts have been found by other scientists, which lends more support to the theory that humans had migrated south before the Ice Age.
