The largest known Douglas-fir lives on Vancouver Island, is almost 1,000 years old and is 89 metres (291 feet) tall! The top of this tree is broken but it was believed to be 10 metres (33 feet) taller, which would have it 99 metres (320 feet) tall!
Extinct vegetarians
Extinct vegetarians Fossils of early hominids, "Australopithecines",
found in South Africa in April were members of a group of early
vegetarian humans. Paleontologists report that they may have used
simple tools but probably became extinct because they were in
direct competition with our earliest ancestors who were able to
exploit both animals and plants for food. These early hominids
lived 1.5 to 2 million years ago. 12 MAY 2000
