The soft footfall that signals dinner
A German physicist has developed a computer model that explains how scorpions can locate prey by listening to ripples in the sand. Scorpions detect movement on sand with sensors in their feet and feel the vibration most strongly in the direction of the prey. This tells them where to turn to face their prey. It is possible that a similar process tells spiders where prey is in their webs.
