New research indicates that the decline in browser species (species that eat leaves off trees) over the last 20 million years has been gradual and stemmed from a number of causes. One of the primary causes is thought to be a decline in the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere, which led to the death of many of the tree species that browsers grazed on.
