A hummingbird can beat its wings at 50 beats per second, which is so fast that it looks like a buzzing blur in the air. Hummingbirds are also able to zoom up to a flower at 40 kilometres per hour (24 miles per hour) and stop in an instant.

Researchers say that they have found a gene in carrots which acts as a plant antifreeze. This gene protects carrots from frost damage. Scientists believe that the gene can be transferred into other varieties of plants to prevent ice crystals from growing in them and killing them.
