Samples stored in an international gene bank are being used to restore crops of traditional varieties of Cambodian rice to the fields of Cambodia. The samples were sent to the international bank by Cambodian scientists during the rule of the Khmer Rouge, during which many of the country's scientific institutions were destroyed.
