Glutton jellyfish
Glutton jellyfish A species of jellyfish that thrives on pollution
is destroying marine life in the Caspian Sea. The jellyfish are
eating both shellfish and sturgeon, the source of Iran's famous
caviar. Environmentalists blame an increase in pollution created by
human activities for creating an environment which these jellyfish
love. Sturgeon populations in the Caspian Sea have been declining
for years, and the jellyfish invasion is helping to accelerate this
decline. 11 MAY 2000
