Scientists in Britain have discovered that levels of radiation in flounder, sole, and mussels found in the Severn Estuary waterway, England, are hundreds of times higher than expected. The source of the contamination is a factory which makes isotopes for the pharmaceuticals industry. Although the marine creatures themselves are found to have high levels of toxins, the toxic level of the water is fairly low. Scientists at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) in Britain are now calling for a re- think on appropriate levels for radioactive discharges into Britain's waterways.
