Winter bugs called snow fleas are born in icy waters and feed on algae that grows on snow. Spring-tails are also called snow fleas and they leap around on snow banks. They eat the sap which oozes from trees. Spring-tails look very similar to fossils of 300 million years ago!

Earthquake registers 3.1
A small earthquake rocked greater Victoria yesterday. The quake was recorded at 3.1 on the Richter scale and occurred at 8 am. Scientists say that a large earthquake occurs off Canada’s West Coast about once every 600 years, but the probability of this happening within the next 50 years is only 5 to 10 per cent.
