Some facts about earthworms from the Canadain Nature Federation: - Although they lack eyes and ears, earthworms can discern light, taste their environment, and detect vibrations - The narrow, slightly pointed end is the front part of the worm's body - There can be more than one million earthworms in an acre of healthy soil. Together, they can eat 10 tons of leaves, stems and dead roots in a layer - Earthworms submerged in water can survive for several weeks providing there is sufficient oxygen in the water to support them.
