On thin ice
On thin ice A research project known as SHEBA (Surface Heat
Budget of the Arctic Ocean) is studying the interactions between
the air, sea, and ice and how they affect the Arctic climate. It is
hoped that the project can provide information which will make
global climate models better, as the increasing levels of
greenhouse gases in Earth's atmosphere are expected to have the
most powerful effects on the Arctic regions. 26 SEPTEMBER 1998, P. 33-37
