Did you know that when baby gulls see the red spot on their parents' bills, they know to start pecking for food there? Adult gulls throw-up food for their chicks to eat and seeing the red spot triggers off the chicks' pecking activity.
Alien Species
Alien Species Humans have always carried species with them to
new places, whether by choice or by chance. These new species are
sometimes beneficial, but often very harmful. Usually the
introduction of new species has good intentions such as introducing
fish for anglers, or crops for agriculture. Too often, the impact
of these new species is not known. Sometimes - like the brown tree
snake in Guam, or the rabbit in Australia - the new species can
wipe out native ones through habitat competition, disease, or
hunting. It is estimated that hundreds of billions of dollars are
spent in the US alone attempting to control alien species. We need
to be very careful about the transfer of new species from one place
to another, but we also need to consider that "the most lethal
migrant species of all, remember, has been the human
