Canadians try a little tenderness with bears
Two Canadian researchers have spent the past five summers living in a cabin in remote wilderness in Russia surrounded by about 400 huge brown bears. They claim that humans can live safely in close contact with bears. The researchers go for walks with the bears and sometimes babysit one mother bear’s cubs. They suggest using a quiet and calm voice when meeting a bear. Studies have shown that the most aggressive bears are heavy meat eaters, while the bears in this part of Russia eat less meat and are therefore probably not very aggressive.
