Disappearing worlds

Disappearing worlds
Many important fossil sites around the world are threatened by factors such as tourism, environmental degradation, and vandalism. The International Palaeontological Association has now drawn up a list of the world's most endangered sites. This list includes 50 locations from all continents except South America and Australia. Scientists are debating the best methods for preserving these sites. Some suggest that fossils should be removed to museums and others suggest that 'outdoor museums' be built to protect the fossils and educate the public. The eventual success of preserving these important fossil sites rests on the public and how it deals with its palaeontological heritage.
