Fishermen shoot at cleaned-up penguins Endangered jackass penguins which were moved from
their home in South Africa to avoid an oil spill and released on
coastal islands have been shot at by fishermen. The fishermen were
concerned that the birds would chase away the fish that they catch.
The 20,000 penguins were released 755 kilometres away from Robben
Island, their home colony, and are expected to swim back slowly,
giving workers a chance to clean up the oil spill. 21 JULY 2000
